TV and You
Know Your Child
Preschoolers are making great intellectual strides. Indiscriminate TV watching can interfere with development if it is used instead of other things to stimulate imagination, language, and more. TV takes time away from other activities.
Children often act out the behavior they see on TV—good and bad.
Just For Parents is a community service of PROTEC and Meld. For more information about Meld, go to www.meld.org or call 805-680-7469.

Know the Situation
TV watching can be affected by the situation—rules may change when a child is sick, during holidays, bad weather or other times.
All TV is "educational" TV. It is teaching our kids something no matter what is on. Parents need to make sure that what's being learned is helpful, not useless or even harmful.
Know Yourself
Does watching TV interfere with other parts of your life—household tasks, family relationships, friendships...?
How do you react to TV? Have you ever changed your behavior because of something you saw on TV—health issue, buying habits...?
