Helping Kids Learn Responsibility
Many parents say one of the biggest problems when teaching kids responsibility is lack of time. Have realistic expectations. Praise effort as well as accomplishment.
Be specific about what you say. Try, "The table is really clean because you wiped it off," instead of "What a good job."
Responsibility means learning from mistakes in an atmosphere of respect, not blame. Kids will shy away from trying to do something if failure means shame and lots of scolding.
